xlr12 Every track on this album is enjoyable. Normally I only find a couple songs per album but I listen to this whole set every time I play it. Look forward to more in the future. Favorite track: Double Line Theme.

Luke Wilson I’ve been a fan of SSLYBY since 2009 and I love this refreshing new side project. As SSLYBY slowly progressed away from weird twee rock to full-on streamlined alternative with each album, I felt less enthusiastic about what they produced (don’t get me wrong: I still love their newer stuff, it just feels less bold & innovative). But Dragon Inn 3 feels as lovely and interesting as their Pershing days, with the added bonus of radio-friendly nostalgia (i.e., there’s a bigger mass appeal for my less explorative friends). Favorite track: Bad Boy.

nano_irving This band came up out of no where for me and impressed me to no end. I love their catchy neo-retro vibe they bring and can't wait for more! Favorite track: Backstabber.

sk8boarddelivery The feeling of walking down a neon-lit street at midnight in the 1980s, listening to your favorite dance tunes, ready to have a good time, but potentially get stabbed, made audible ♥ Favorite track: Backstabber.

about

Available now on CD, LP, and Digitally

Dragon Inn 3's debut LP clocks in at 28 minutes, but the band spent six years whittling away on the songs that would eventually become Double Line. Combining sugary pop hooks, hypnotic beats, and huge MOOG synths, Dragon Inn 3's playful take on 80s pop could double as the soundtrack to a John Hughes movie (if John Hughes directed Blade Runner).

The cinematic origins of Dragon Inn 3 can be traced back to 2012, when Philip Dickey (leader of the indie-pop group Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin) wrote a theme song for the award-winning short film Ghoul School. "If you watch the trailer you can tell it's the same premise and look as Stranger Things–we just accidentally made it three years before them," Dickey says. "I had so much fun making the soundtrack with the director (E.P. Marcus) that we decided to start a band."

Dickey recruited his sister, Sharon Bowie, an occupational therapist, and his wife, children's librarian Grace Bentley, to help with songwriting and vocal duties. The group self-released the Ghoul School Soundtrack EP in late 2012, receiving high praise from Consequence of Sound, Philadelphia's WXPN, and The Riverfront Times, before climbing to #1 on Bandcamp's cassette charts.

Then it was back to the studio (i.e. the bedrooms, kitchens, garages, and hotel rooms that doubled as makeshift recording studios). In between full-time jobs, parenthood, graduate school classes, and cross country moves, the members of Dragon Inn 3 put Double Line to tape. "I'm a stay-at-home dad now, so I would work on song arrangements and rough mixes when our toddler was taking his naps," explains Dickey. "Grace would come home from work and record all her parts after his bedtime. We recorded all the breathy vocals in the living room and all the yelly parts in the garage so we wouldn't wake him up."

Praise for Double Line:

"wonderfully sharp songwriting and tasteful studio craft." - All Music (4 stars)

"an homage to everything we loved about John Hughes' movies, MTV videos and Miami Vice." - WXPN World Cafe / NPR Music

"80's style neon-lit future pop with big, sugary warm analog synths and a sugared edge" - Bandcamp "New & Notable Release"

"...satisfy your need for saccharine party riffs, steeped in synths." - Grimy Goods

"...dangerously charming and stealing the entire show. The quartet is bringing back sounds that have been missing from pop." - AXS

Track Name: What Kind Of World Are You Living In
Bad girls on top of the water
Mary Caroline
I’m on the borderline
Leaving my mind at your altar
Crossing the double line
Doing it every time

Tell me what kind of world are you living in
What kind of world are you living in? (4x)
Track Name: Bad Boy
I was looking around town
Watching the sundown
Thinking the same as you

I’ve been trying to slow down
Laying low now
Trying to make it through

When the night is coming
Are you still running
Holding on to memories

Are you somewhere out there
Hear my last prayer
I still need you

Everyday I feel like
I could be your bad boy
Your bad boy
I feel the way you wait for it
Oooh

I was under the knife
At the top of the night
Cuz I know you feel it too

I was losing my way through
Through the edge of decay
Probably trying to get to you

When the night is coming
Are you still running
Tripping over memories

And if you were mine
And we give it time
I could get you what you need

Everyday I feel like
I could be your bad boy
Your bad boy
I feel the way you wait for it
wait for it
wait for it

Ooh
Track Name: Three Minute Mile
Desperation
Bad desire (8x)
Track Name: Juliet
I steal the night away
Drivin' my life away, dancin'
I was a romeo
I knew the art of romancin'
I was just one of the guys
And I thought I had it made
I needed someone to show me how to love

Juliet oh Juliet
The night was magic when we first met
Juliet, oh Juliet
You know you taught me to fly
You take me clear to the sky
And all the people around the world can stand aside
For me and my baby, Juliet

Fighting with destiny, fortune and fame but kept losing
Playin' a joker's game,
Only myself I was foolin'
I was an average guy in a world of empty dreams
You've broken down all the walls with your love

Juliet, oh Juliet
This kind of lovin' you don't forget
Juliet, oh Juliet
You know you taught me to fly
You take me clear to the sky
And all the people around the world can stand aside

Close your eyes, Juliet, don't let go
On and on, our love is like the sun
It keeps going strong throughout eternity

I want to love you in my life, sweet Juliet
Livin' without you in my life, oh my girl Juliet

Juliet, oh Juliet
This kind of lovin' you don't forget
Juliet, oh Juliet
You know you taught me to fly
You take me clear to the sky
And all the people around the world can stand aside

Juliet, oh Juliet
This kind of lovin' you don't forget
Juliet, oh Juliet, Ah...
Juliet, oh Juliet
Track Name: Double Line Theme
(INSTRUMENTAL)
Track Name: Backstabber
It’s time to settle this dispute
I know something’s gotta give
And I’ll give it to you
You’ll never trust me
I’m okay with that
When this is over
I still know that you’ll have my back

Give it back
Give it back to me (repeat)
Give it back or my heart won’t beat any longer

I thought we settled this dispute
Your mind is made up and you won’t change it
You’re going back on your word
Gonna stab me in the back
Stick an ice pick in it
Track Name: Club Sauce
Whenever you’re ever so lost
Days and nights are fog
Whatever whatever you’re on
Whatever whatever you’re on

One more night
One more night
One more night in Club Sauce
One last time
One last time
In Club Sauce

I’ve been to those Hollywood clubs
I tasted that Redwood bud
I crossed the ocean once
And I’ll cross it again for Club Sauce

One more night
One more night
One more night in Club Sauce
One last time
One last time
In Club Sauce

I was so lost
Until I found
That sound

I cannot wash it off
I cannot sleep it off
I cannot shake it off
Track Name: Rocket Launcher
I called in late for work
Even though there was a prize
For being there all the time
There's just too much on mind

Don't know what you're saying
When we kissed
My heart was like a new Rocket Launcher

I worked too hard at work
Put my car in reverse
I crossed the double line
There's just too much on my mind

Don't know why you're staying
When we kissed
My heart was like a new Rocket Launcher

When I thought about it
I could be better off without you (4x)
Track Name: Murder In The Third
Nothing
Nothing ever will
Slow me
Slow me down again

Nothing’s going to slow me down
Slow me down
Slow me down
Slow me down again (8x)

Don’t cry it’ll be alright
Don’t cry ’til you see the light now
You’re gonna find every dream in the city lights
Track Name: Up In The Business
Won't you tie me up again?
Or are you gonna meet your friend?
If you don't see me there tonight
I'll be working overtime
I'll be...

Up in the business (4x)
All night long

Once again he leaves you there
And I'm the only one who cares
I will keep coming back
'Til I hear the vessel crack

I'm up in the business all night long (4x)
Back where we came from
